Chicken Payments

Chicken Payments

from 41.00

Chickens are sold out for winter 2018-19, but we are keeping a wait list. Please send us an email if you’d like to be on the chicken wait list this winter.

We raise meat chickens only during the months they can be kept out on pasture, so they come to you frozen and vacuum-sealed. With a large share, you get six whole chickens per month. A medium share consists of four whole chickens per month. A small share consists of two frozen, whole chickens per month.

Our winter season runs from Thanksgiving through February, with 4 chicken deliveries in all. (Chicken deliveries coincide with deliveries for all the other share types.) This year, our CSA calendar manages to miss almost all of the winter holidays, but rescheduling with us just takes a couple of clicks.

Our meat chickens live out their entire lives in the mobile chicken coops called "chicken tractors" popularized by farmers like Joel Salatin.

Because of our chickens' varied diets, their meat is higher in Omega-3 fatty acids and Vitamin A than the meat of factory farmed birds. (1)

Chickens need a balanced diet that relies in part on grains to support their health and growth. We go out of our way to provide local feed that is not genetically modified/non-GMO. Our animals are never given growth hormones. We treat animals like ourselves, and would give antibiotics only in the case of a true medical emergency, never to boost growth or to temper the effects of confinement. There has never yet been a cause for antibiotics use at our farm.

For more information about our practices, please ask us.

If you are unfamiliar with cooking with whole chicken, we have lots of ideas to share. From informational videos on cutting a chicken into parts to delicious recipes for stock, grilling, brining, and more, we're happy to help you make the most of your share. For starters, you can browse upwards of 60 recipe ideas on our farm's Pinterest board.

We know that joining a CSA is a big commitment, and we want you to be completely satisfied with your experience at our farm. If you find you have a problem of any kind, we hope you will come to us right away so we can fix it or provide an explanation. If you're unsatisfied for any reason, we will refund you the balance of your share on demand.
