ABOUT BLUE PLATE PROJECT

Blue Plate Project is a nonprofit that partners with Bluestem Farm to deliver good food to families who need it. 100% of your donation puts food on tables in northern Michigan. In the summer of 2016, 10 local families benefitted from the kind donations of fellow CSA members.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Nurses and social workers and clinicians from Health Department of Northwest Michigan identify people in need and point them to us. Then we grow a bunch of extra food and raise money to give that food away.

Individual donations like yours make up the lion's share of this program. We also partner with other local businesses and organizations to raise funds, from the Charlevoix County Community Foundation to Industrial Magnetics, Inc. to The Inn at Bay Harbor, Boyne Mountain Resort, and the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Petoskey. We've also been lucky to have the support of the band Breathe Owl Breathe, who for the past few years threw these wonderful concerts in our barn that involved everything from cakewalks to silent movies. If you'd like to throw your organization's support behind what we do, please be in touch!

WHY BLUE PLATE?

During the Great Depression, a Blue Plate Special was "a low-priced daily diner special: a main course with all the fixins, a daily combo, a square for two bits."
